The results of the examination for 2012 which was concluded in late December will be released shortly and will show how important it is to follow a proper course of study to get through. Some think it is a piece of cake because they have a basic understanding of electronics. But take it from us that it can be very simple if one prepares but even an electronics master’s degree holder will fail if one goes unprepared as there are papers on procedure and regulations as well and matters relating to Amateur Radio ,antenna theory propagation and such which are not areas that someone will know unless there is proper orientation and guidance. The amateur radio examination may not be for a professional qualification, but it has certain standards and those will be upheld to continue to maintain the high esteem with which the Amateur Service is accepted in professional circles. The Radio Society has near 100% results year after year thanks to the classes it conducts every Sunday at club headquarters conducted by 4S7VJ and 4S7KG assisted by other senior radio amateurs.
In addition to theory classes, practical hands on experience is also available to enjoy on the air operations as a club call sign 4S7RS carries with it permission for members to transmit under the supervision of an instructor. Library facilities are also available.
All the above facillities are available and is a free service to members by the Radio Society of Sri Lanka which is the national organisation representing Amateur Radio in Sri Lanka (RSSL) and the representative of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) in Sri Lanka. Anyone can follow the classes provided they are paid up members, or join on enrollment for classes. We do not have dozens at classes as can be expected, so it is a very homely and friendly atmosphere that exists on Sunday mornings at Haig Road Bambalapitiya and it also brings new-comers into contact building great friendships amongst the radio amateur community.
Whether you want to be an advanced class operator or not, we urge you to learn CW/Morse and add class to your operational skills. ” CW is he ultimate in radio communications”. CW classes are conducted by 4S7KG every Sunday at the RSSL shack.
Classes for 2013 will commence on the 03rd of March and those interested should contact our Director studies Mr. J. T. Wijeratne 4S7VJ on 0711514498
